Audrey Jane Chase
June 9, 1930 - Oct. 27, 2018

Audrey Jane Chase, 88, wife of the late Leverett Paul Chase, known as Paul to family and friends, of Pemaquid Beach, passed away peacefully on Oct. 27 in Newcastle.

Audrey was born on June 9, 1930 in Somerville, Mass. to loving parents, Lawrence Dana and Jane Hall, who first introduced her to the Pemaquid peninsula during her childhood summers. She graduated Somerville High School and married Paul Chase in 1953. Together they raised four children in their home in Pemaquid Beach. During that time, Audrey also worked for AT&T, served as Postmaster of Pemaquid Point, managed the New Harbor branch bank for Damariscotta Bank & Trust, and ran a successful summer rental business.

A woman of limitless energy, Audrey fully embraced the details of everyday life and the local community. She was active in the Bristol Footlighters and the Power Squadron, and volunteered at Miles Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed dancing and roller skating with her husband, and boating in Maine and the Caribbean with her family and friends. She loved playing Rummy and Rummikub with her friends, children and grandchildren. She especially loved the ocean and would boat, swim or snorkel at every chance. She was fortunate to spend the last 20 winters in Jupiter, Fla. so she could swim and boat year round with her children and grandchildren. She loved people and talking, and her radiant energy rubbed off on those around her.

In addition to her husband Paul, Audrey was predeceased by her adored son, Paul Leverett Chase; and sister, Claire Jolliffe.

A cherished parent, grandparent, and friend, Audrey leaves behind sons, Michael Paul Chase, and Mark Dana Chase; daughter, Linda M. Chase-Jenkins; and granddaughters, Alexandra and Victoria.

Audrey will be remembered for her unconditional love for and dedication to her family, as well as her energy and passion for life.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 5-7 p.m., Fri., Nov. 9 at the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home in Damariscotta. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 10 at St. Patrick’s Church in Newcastle. She will be laid to rest with her husband and son in the New Harbor Cemetery. A reception will be held at her house in Pemaquid Beach immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bristol First Responders, 104 South Side Rd., New Harbor, ME 04554.
