Kenneth E. Hayes, 88 of Kirksville passed away Wednesday (November 7, 2018) at his home.
The son of Howard and Willette (Darby) Hayes, he was born April 5, 1930 in Pleasant Hope, Missouri. On December 2, 1951 in Beloit, Kansas he was united in marriage to Shirley Strawn.
Ken is survived by his wife, Shirley; one son, Robert Hayes and wife Debbie of Lenexa, Kansas; one daughter, Cathy Humphrey of Kirksville; two grandchildren, Laura Hayes and Chris Humphrey; and one great grandson, Eli Humphrey.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ken grew up in Pleasant Hope, MO where he graduated high school. He served in the United States Army from 1952 until his discharge in 1954. He attended Mortuary School in Kansas City. He worked 50 in the funeral industry, working for Dee Riley Funeral Home in Kirksville, Arnold Funeral Home in Mexico, MO and part time after he retired for the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home. He was also the district manager for AAA in Kirksville and also sold insurance and car parts until he retired.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was active with Red Cross blood drives and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday (November 11, 2018) at Maple Hills Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home; www.davisplaylehudsonrimer.com.
