He was born in Somerville, Mass., a son of Charles and Lucille (Vose) Sweetser. He was a graduate of Kingfield High School and a 1952 graduate of Bowdoin College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked as an accountant for many years at General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y., Cleveland, Ohio, and later in Wilmington, Mass. He was a 55-year member of Mt. Abram Masonic Lodge 204, AF and AM, of Kingfield. He enjoyed trap and skeet shooting.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan (Blanchette) Sweetser of Mansfield; a son, Maj. Nathan Sweetser, and his wife, Andrea, of Chester, Va.; a daughter, Susan Sweetser of Peabody, Mass.; four grandchildren, Amy, Cory, Jamie and Matthew; and two great-grandchildren, Natalia and Donovan.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Lois Flanagan and Lena Atwood.
