Louis E. Roberts “Buckwheat” went home to the Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 04, 2018. He passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones. He was born on October 28, 1935 the son of Louis E. Roberts and Elsie Cox Willis. They precede him in death.
Also preceding him in death include his step-father, Claude Willis; brothers, Ray Kennedy and Francis “Stubb” Kennedy; sister, Elsie Lou Stevens; close family friends, Jack and Betty Watson and his beloved wife Barbara Ann Roberts.
He is survived by his three children, Paula (Tim) Ryan, Kyle (Pam) Roberts, Kevin (Chris) Roberts; five grandchildren, Rachel (Jason) Vernia, Justin (Gabby) Roberts, Cassie (Levi Knight) Roberts, Kelsey Roberts, and Jordan Roberts; and two great-grandchildren, Reilly Greene and Gracelynn Rose Vernia.
In his 83 years, Louis devoted his life to the Lord, his wife, family, and hobbies. He served his community of Danville as an auxiliary police officer, a member of The Shriner’s, a Master Mason of Anchor Lodge 980, and a 32nd Degree Mason of The Scottish Rite. Louis made a career on the railroad and carried his love of trains throughout life. He spent 55 years married to the love of his life, Barbara Ann. Together they spent their lifetime building a beautiful life raising their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, all while being active members at the Second Church of Christ. Louis loved being outside in his garden, mowing the lawn, splitting wood, and playing with his grand-dogs. He loved spending time with his grandkids, babysitting Gracelynn, and telling them stories of his childhood. He always made time for his family and was at every major life event; from marriages to soccer games. Some of his favorite pastimes were watching old westerns, going to Wendy’s with his church group, telling jokes, and spending time with his family. Buckwheat loved cooking, baking, and canning fresh vegetables. He enjoyed beef and noodles, snacking, and making tomato sauce.
Louis leaves behind a legacy full of life lessons, cherished memories, and unconditional love.
