He was born January 31, 1925 in Danville, Illinois, the son of the late Margaret and Harlan Mills.
He retired in 1989 from Material & Fuel Company after 52 years of service. Jerry was a member of Southside Christian Church and Second Church of Christ in Danville, serving in both. After moving to Champaign, Illinois, he and Jane served at First Christian Church. He served as an elder in all three congregations.
Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943-1947 and was awarded the Victory Medal and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Jane Mills, whom he lovingly called "Janie." They celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on January 21; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Dennis A. Bratton of Gallatin, Tennessee; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Lou Anne Mills, of Champaign; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
