Valerie M. Baker of Carmel, NY passed away on November 4, 2018 surrounded by her family; she was 62 years old. Valerie was born in the Bronx on March 3, 1956, the daughter of Joseph and Alfonsina (Rotolo) Papale.

Valerie loved the beach life, and often traveled to the Caribbean with friends and family. She had an unwavering affection for animals and all forms of life. Her devotion to helping and caring for others was often shown as she worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse throughout her life. Although, one of her most proudest moments in her life was the achievement of her nursing license, she loved nothing more than being a mother, a wife, a family member, and a friend. She treasured her relationships with the ones she loved first and foremost.

"Family isn't always blood. It's the people in your life who want you in theirs; the ones who accept you for who you are. The ones who would do anything to see you smile, and who love you no matter what." - Valerie Baker

Valerie is survived by her husband Skipp, her son Christopher Sladic and his wife Beth, her son Zachary Baker, her siblings Loretta Preira (Papale) and Joseph Papale, and her grandchildren Ranger and Rose Sladic.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial visitation on Friday, November 9th from 3-7 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac. Eulogies and a prayer service will follow the visitation.

"At the end of life what really matters is not what we bought, but what we built. Not what we got, but what we shared. Not out competence, but our character. I have lived the life of love." - Val's Wishes
