Ralph Herman Jordan, 94, formerly of Shipyard Road, Hertford, NC, died Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in Gates House, Gatesville.

Mr. Jordan was born in Chowan County on July 3, 1924, and was the son of the late Isaac Daniel and Myrtle Nixon Jordan.

A retired farmer, in earlier years he had also worked as a tractor mechanic. An Army veteran having served in World War II, he was a member of both Hertford Baptist and Woodland United Methodist churches, and enjoyed fellowship in various churches throughout his life.

An honest man, he lived his life by the golden rule as best he could. He passed that value on to his children, so it could be passed along to his grand and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly. His sense of humor and love for others were evident in his sweet smile till the very end.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Elaine Mistiades Jordan and Evelyn LeBars Baker Jordan; a daughter, Tina Jordan; a sister, Audrey Vickery; a brother, Lester Jordan; and by a great-grandson, Chase Gilliam.

Surviving are his daughter, Rita Plum and husband, Ted, of Garner; his son, Tony Jordan and partner, Barbara Stevens, of Charlottesville, VA; a sister, Ruth Hanke Creighton of Illinois; five grandchildren, Kristin Struchen, Alex Plum, Nick Plum, Diana Gilliam, and Ian Jordan; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 17, at 2:00 p.m. in the Miller & Van Essendelft Chapel, 1125 Harvey Point Road, Hertford. Friends may join the family in the funeral home immediately following the service. A private burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery.
