He was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitnel where he served as teacher of the Special Ed class for twenty-five years. He was a Korean War Veteran, truck driver for 23 years and retired from General Electric after 25 years of service. He enjoyed coon hunting, farming and chatting online with his many friends and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is loved by so many and missed by all. He passed a legacy of faith and love to his family to be carried on until we meet again.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Barbara Douglas Kirby of the home; two sons, Ricky E. Kirby and wife Marjorie, Douglas E. Kirby and wife Karen; one daughter, Mrs. Sandra Phillips and husband Allen, all of Hudson; five grandsons, Justin Phillips, Nick Kirby, Jonathan Kirby, Christopher Kirby and Joshua Kirby; one granddaughter, Heather Coyle and husband Wayne; one great-grandson, Patrick Eugene Coyle; one great-granddaughter, Abbie Grace Phillips, all of Hudson; two brothers, D. Lee Kirby of Oregon and David Haas of Boone; one sister, Mrs. Barbara Farley of Baton; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
A celebration of life for our beloved husband, daddy, pawpaw and friend will be held Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Whitnel conducted by Rev. Stuart White. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be the grandsons, Judd Phillips, Nick Kirby, Jonboy Kirby, Adam Kirby, Michael Clark and Jacob Townsend.
