Kim M. Olson, 49, of Kiel, saw her Savior face to face on Saturday, November 3, 2018 after a hard-fought battle with cancer since 2013, surrounded by her loving family.
Kim was born to Thomas and Dorla Abrams on April 14, 1969, in Plymouth, Wisconsin. She graduated from Plymouth Comprehensive High School in 1987. She attended Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, IA, for two years, then she worked for a year as a live-in nanny in Connecticut with intentions to return to college for her junior year. Instead, she moved to Lowell, MI, to help her cousins, Tamara & Gerald Huisman, care for their five children while Tamara underwent heavy treatments for breast cancer. Kim remained in the Grand Rapids, MI, area finding employment as a nanny after Tamara went into remission.

Kim met her Love, Robert Bruce Olson II, at West Cannon Baptist Church near Grand Rapids, MI, and they were married on February 25, 1994. In July, 1994, Kim and Bob moved back to Wisconsin when Bob was hired by Kohler Company. They lived in Plymouth briefly and in Sheboygan Falls for about four years before moving to Kiel, where they have lived since 1999.

Kim had the blessing of being a stay-at-home mom to their five children until the youngest was in first grade. One of her greatest accomplishments was being able to partner with Bob to bring their children up to love and serve the Lord. One of her greatest blessings was knowing that each of her five children, individually, trusted Christ as their Savior, and are living their lives for Him.

Kim held many jobs during her life including lifeguard, nanny, house cleaner, factory worker, babysitter, and a position at Sunrise Bakery in Kiel. Her most recent position was at Giebler Chiropractic, Kiel, where she began working the front desk in 2008, transitioning to the Insurance and Billing Manager until 2018. Kim loved her job, loved interacting with patients, and especially loved her employers, Dr. Nic & Ellie Giebler, who were more like family than bosses.

Kim enjoyed reading, scrapbooking, homemaking, gardening, sports, and spending time with family. She loved listening to her children play piano, as well as guitar, violin, and some ukulele, filling their home with music. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Kiel, involved in teaching children, writing Christmas plays, holding various offices, and cleaning the church building weekly with her family. Since her original breast cancer diagnosis in 2013, Kim had a passion to share what she learned about true health and treating cancer naturally. She regularly wrote articles for the Giebler Chiropractic newsletter and maintained a blog (www.notaspiritoffear.blogspot.com).

She is survived by her husband, Robert; their five children, Emily, Holly, Heidi, Benjamin, and Rose Olson; her parents, Thomas & Dorla Abrams (FL); her siblings, Joy (Jeremy) Pitman (MI); Steven (Rebecca) Abrams (New Holstein, WI); and Thomas Abrams (MI). She is also survived by her husband’s parents, Robert & Carol Olson (MI); her husband’s sisters, Ellen (William) Walrath (MI), Connie (Patrick) Mitchell (MI), Ruthann (Kirk) Beimers (NC), and Lynette (John) Lopez (MI); numerous nieces and nephews as well as three great-nieces. Kim was preceded in death by her maternal (Harold & Leota McNeil) and paternal (Albert & Nelda Savola) grandparents, all of MI; her cousin, Tamara Huisman; and three still-born nieces, Cassandra Beimers, Katelyn and Megan Abrams.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 9, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Kiel, with Rev. Steven Schultz officiating. Burial will follow at Kiel City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Kiel on Thursday, November 8, 2018 and will continue on Friday from 10:00 am until 10:45 am.

The family would like to thank Butch’s Army for all of the support, and Sharon S. Richardson Hospice for the heartfelt and personal care provided to Kim and her family.
