Wilma Flippin Simmons past away on October 29, 2018 while surrounded by family and friends. Wilma was born on November 9, 1923 to Samuel (Sam) Flippin, Sr. and Pheba Jessup Flippin, who preceded her in death. Wilma lived all of her life in the Westfield/Pilot Mountain Community. She was a member of the Jessup Grove Baptist Church and attended Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. Wilma is survived by her husband of 75 years. Lester Leo Simmons, her daughter Bobbie Simmons Collins and son-in-law John Collins of Mt. Airy, two grandchildren, John Kerry Collins, Jr., and his wife Cathy Collins of Winston Salem and Todd Collins and his wife Claire Collins of Cullowhee, five great grandchildren, Anna, Katherine, James, John, and Audrey. She is also survived by three sisters, Dolly Williams of Mt. Airy, Mary Jane Griffith and her husband Arnold Griffith of Mt. Airy, and Shirley Flippin of Jacksonville, Fl., and sister-in-law Carolyn Flippin of Pilot Mountain, and many special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph Flippin, Samuel Flippin Jr., Clay Flippin, and Claude Flippin and one sister Peggy Jo Flippin. Wilma farmed much of her life, worked at Lynn Hosiery, and Eckerd Drug Store in Mt., Airy. She will be remembered by family and friends for her warm smile, her giving nature, and her devotion to those she loved. She was also known for always having homemade pies, cakes, and cookies ready for any visitors that might stop by. She will be greatly missed by all those that knew her.



A memorial service will be November 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church on Cook School Rd, Pilot Mountain with Rev. Doug Brinkley officiating. Interment will follow at Jessup Grove Baptist Church, Pilot Mountain, North Carolina. The family will visit with family and friends from 10 – 11 at Pine ridge Presbyterian Church prior to service.
