Bernardine M. Feller, aged 23, an Air Stewardess, from New York, died on 15 April 1948, at Cahertigue, Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co. Clare.
The cause of death was Shock and Burning, Instantaneous.
Her death was registered on 22 May 1948, on foot of information received from Patrick K. O'Flynn, Coroner for East Clare, following an inquest held on 13 May 1948.

On 15 April 1948, Pan Am flight 1-10, a Lockheed Constellation Clipper aircraft "Empress of the Skies", crashed during an attempted landing at Shannon Airport.
It was taking part in a round-the-world flight, which had started at San Francisco, and was due to finish at New York.

The plane had taken off from London at 0:35am. It had been cleared to land on runway 23 at 2:10am but missed its approach. On the second attempt to land, it crashed 720 m. short of the runway, at Cahertigue, Shannon.
There were 31 people onboard, 30 of whom died. There was 1 survivor Mark Worst, an employee of Lockheed Aircraft, former manager at Shannon, from Burbank, California. There were 10 Crew and 20 passengers. The Lockheed Constellation aircraft had a normal flight crew of 5, and a cabin crew of 5.
Of the dead, 20 were American, 5 were Italian, 2 were Indian, 1 each were from Australia, Britain, and Pakistan.
28 were buried in Drumcliff Cemetery, County Clare, 1 was buried in England, and 1 was buried in America.

The casualties are listed as recorded on the monument. The third panel lists the crew buried here. The remains of 1 crew member appear to have been returned to Connecticut, U.S.A. for burial
