Services and burial will be at a later date at Diamond Head Memorial Park Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
The oldest of seven children, Violet was born Dec. 9, 1917, in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Sing Lee and Kam Sing Lam. Growing up in Honolulu, Violet lived through the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
She loved reading, cooking, sewing, and tending to her many house plants and flowers she grew in her yard. She was an experienced traveler and enjoyed touring the mainland United States from coast to coast with her husband, C.S. Gray, before their daughter, Darlene was born. They later divorced.
Violet married William D.H. Lee on July 8, 1966. She also traveled throughout the mainland with her husband, Bill, daughter Darlene, son-in-law, Merle and grandson, Rick. Violet and Bill also had great times tailgating with friends at football games. Bill passed away on Sept. 9, 1981. Violet relished traveling and touring the Orient numerous times with her brothers and sisters, vacationing and visiting family. Violet relocated from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Sioux City, Iowa, to be near her daughter and built her home there in 1989.
Left to cherish Violet’s memory is her daughter, Darlene Gray Banta of Sioux City; a sister, Molly Leong of Honolulu, Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews in Hawaii and Maryland. She also has a large extended family in a number of states on the mainland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billl grandson, Bryan Richard Wai-Mun Banta; son-in-law, Merle Richard Banta; and siblings, Dorothy Simeona, Edmund H.S. Lee, Stanley H.C. Lee, Osmund H.K. Lee, and Laura Loo.
