James Kimbell
August 27, 1926 - November 1, 2018
In loving memory of our very own Superman. James Kimbell. Jim or "Pops" as his grandchildren Scott and Devyn called him passed peacefully from our world to Heaven on the 1st of November. A Loving Husband/Best Friend, Dedicated Father/Mentor and Proud/Fun Grandfather. Pops was 92. Jim was born August 27, 1926 to James and Nettie Kimbell.
He grew up in Groesbeck Texas. He graduated from Groesbeck High School, home of the "goats" in 1943 where he and his cousins Pete, Budge and Rachael shared many great times. After graduation Jim moved to Arlington and enrolled in college. He was also in the military reserves and shortly after starting school was called to active duty. After serving two years in the US Army Jim returned to school and in 1949 graduated from Arlington State College (University of Texas at Arlington) with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Jim went to work for Texas Electric in Fort Worth for a short while before joining IBM (I've Been Moved) in 1953. Jim was eventually fortunate enough to be transferred to Austin where he stayed for the remainder of his career and finally retired after 35 years of service. Along the way he met and fell in love with his Arthur Murray dance instructor Ellen Duarts. They were married in 1958 and recently celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage.
They raised two sons. Michael and David. Michael and David along with their spouses Karen and Rhea and grandson Scott will greatly miss their father and grandfather but have been eternally blessed and thankful to have had Pops in their lives for so many years. His wife Ellen, his best friend and love of his life, will of course miss her soulmate. But she has many years of wonderful and sometimes crazy memories to comfort her until that day when she joins him once again. Until then his mother Nettie, his father James, his granddaughter Devyn and his best friends and cousins Pete and Rachael will welcome him with open arms and show him around and talk about old times and family.
Pop's will be so greatly missed by all of his loved ones and everyone else who was lucky enough to be his friend. But it is both comforting and heartening to know that there is now one more Angel watching over our families. We love you Superman.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel, 3125 N. Lamar Blvd. in Austin. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park, 2800 Hancock Drive.
