Mary "Mildred" Kincaid

Salem - Our beloved mother, grandmother and prayer warrior Mary "Mildred" Kincaid went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, October 29 after bravely battling numerous health challenges. She joined her husband A.W. who preceded her to Heaven in 2012.

Mildred was born on July 16, 1922 in Memphis, TN and never lost her Southern Belle roots. Fried okra and pinto beans were a staple in her kitchen, along with church every Sunday.

Nursing became her passion as a young adult when she was a nurse in the Army Air Corps during WWII where she met and married her instructor pilot husband A.W. Kincaid in Fort Lauderdale, FL on September 18, 1944. Family life followed with the birth of Ann, Joe, and Kathy. Their family years were spent in Texas before moving to Salem in 1964. Although Mildred had instructed nursing in Texas, she earned her BSN in May 1977 from Linfield. She retired in 1987 from Oregon State Hospital. She and A.W. celebrated their retirement in the British Isles in 1989. They enjoyed the beach, and visiting relatives and grandchildren. All entering the house were greeted with outstretched arms, a hug, and a "Welcome to this house!" She was a faithful member at Capital Baptist Church in Salem. Mildred came from a large, loving family and was preceded in death by parents Etta Stokeley and Norman Maynard and brothers Jim Tom, Norman, Hal, and sisters Wilba Jean, and Martha. She is survived by her daughters Ann and Kathy, and son Joe (Nadine), and grandchildren Melissa, Kaisa (Ryan), and Kyle (Kristin), and great grandson Colton Atticus along with sisters Alma Anne and Margaret.

Although her health challenges were many, Mildred never complained and remained a strong prayer intercessor for her family members and church family. We will miss her prayers for our families and beautiful, sweet spirit.

Services will be Saturday, Nov. 3rd, at 10:30am at Capital Baptist Church. Assisting the family is Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
