Ellen Priscilla Ford (nee Platte) age 91 of Grand Rapids passed away peacefully on February 27, 2017 following a long struggle with Alzheimers. Ellen was born on July 11,1925 and was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years Richard in 2015.

She is survived by her three children Linda Ford (Ted Burba), Laurie Ford-Cassady (Gary) and Richard P. Ford (Julie); her two grandsons Scott Burba (Meridith) of Marietta, GA and Steven Burba (Rosana) of Windemere, FL; her four great-grandchildren Elisa and Eva Burba, Jake Burba and Ali Kamel.

Ellen was a 1943 graduate of East Grand Rapids High School and a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She worked as an Assistant Fashion Coordinator for Wurzburgs Department store until at age 40 when she returned to Grand Rapids Junior College and received her degree as a licensed practical nurse and as a result she spent many decades working on the OB floor at Blodgett. In addition, Ellen served for many years as a Sideboard Guild Member of Blodgett Hospital and as a member of the Grand Rapids Junior League.

A private family internment will be held at Graceland Mausoleum in late spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Grand Rapids Humane Society or Hospice of Holland.

The Family extends a special and appreciative thank you to American House of Holland and Hospice of Holland. Mom’s journey and ours were easier because of their kindness, compassion and care.
