Pat Watts age 80 of Montezuma, Iowa passed away suddenly Wednesday at her home in Montezuma. Burial in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Patricia Mae Shanklin was the daughter of H Darrell and Esther Lentz Shanklin. She graduated from Marion High School in 1956. She graduated from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls in 1960 receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. After receiving her degree, Pat taught Physical Education in Montezuma from 1960 to 1964.

She was married to Dale Watts on June 23, 1963 at the Montezuma United Methodist Church. To this union two sons were born, Mark and Brian.

When her youngest son began school, Pat went back to work in the Montezuma School elementary office and also subbed until retiring in 1997. During that time, Dale and Pat owned and operated Star Lanes Bowling Alley in Montezuma where she ran the snack bar and was known for her donuts and cookie dough. Every morning before going to work at the school, Pat would go into the bowling alley getting the donuts ready.

Pat taught swimming lessons during the summer for several years and enjoyed water aerobics. Dale and Pat enjoyed traveling, having the opportunity to travel to Europe twice, visiting all 50 states, wintering in Texas the past 11 years and taking a family vacation on a Disney Cruise twice.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and attending all of their activities. Pat took pride in her garden and enjoyed sharing its produce with neighbors and friends.

She was a very faithful member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, Mother’s Club, the Montezuma Community Club and she enjoyed her monthly retired teacher’s group luncheons.
