Dale was born to Carl and Mabel (Ring) Bard. He attended primary school in a one room school house, and graduated from Wakefield High School. He proudly served in the US Navy, then graduated from Wayne State College. In 1948, he married Helen Funkhouser.

His first full-time job was a high school biology teacher in Alliance, Nebraska and his last full-time job was as the national sales and marketing director at Arkla in Paragould, Arkansas. He appeared on national television shows as The Patio Gourmet, served as Lt. Governor in Kiwanis, and was a Methodist Lay Pastor. He was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed boating, cooking, raising horses, and lots of travelling. Yes, he did a “heap” of living in 91 years and enjoyed every day. Attitude is everything!
