Jermaine Brooks, born September 25, 1979, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018 at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan after battling years of illness with his mother by his side.

He was a 1998 graduate of Napoleon High School and was a cook at Kentucky Fried Chicken until he fell ill in 2014. Some knew him as Jermaine, Nate's Lil Brother, Smoove, J-Smooth, Smooth Dillinger, Jimi, and Uncle Jimi, but the name he was most proud of was "DAD"! Not only did he love his children, he loved kids period. One of his greatest joys was to take the children on bike rides, walks, and picnics at the parks. He was a big fan of the Detroit Lions and WWE Wrestling.

All that knew him knew he was the most humble, soft spoken, laid back, easy going person you would ever meet. Everyone that met him loved him.

He leaves to mourn his mother Claudine Brooks of Defiance, father Tyrone Oliver of Toledo, daughters Savanna M. Brooks and LiAnna R. Brooks, both of Defiance, and Isabella M. Workman of Mt. Vernon, IL, brothers Nathaniel Byrd, Jr. of Toledo, Trevino Jones of Toledo, sisters KaDena T. Brooks of Toledo, Anastasia P. Brooks of Defiance, and Shaniqua Phillips of Toledo, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, especially dear friends Ramona Miller, Stephanie White, Allen Hall, and Gene Conrad.

Preceding him in death is his maternal grandparents, Wilhelmina and Senorman Brooks, paternal grandparents, Robbie M. Arthur and James E. Foster, and niece Aniya R. Brooks-Riblet.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with Rev. Clayborne E. Arnett officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the family to assist with expenses.
