After his service in World War I, Robert was a prominent attorney in Greenville. He received his A.B. from Westminster College in New Wilmington in 1910 and earned his L.L.B. from the University of Pennsylvania in 1915 where he had achieved first years honors. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi fraternity, the Hare Law Club, Order of the Coif, secretary of the Tennis Association 1913-14, and was a staff editor of the Univ. of Penna. Law Review.

He was very active in Mercer County social affairs; being at various times a trustee of the Mercer Mausoleum and Mercer Free Library, president of the Mercer Civic League, sec.-treas. of the Mercer Fortnightly Club and the N.W. Penna. Association of County Fairs, and secretary of the Mercer Chautauqua Association.
