One Killed Near Valley

A Fremont woman died of a broken back she suffered in a traffic accident near Valley, Acting Douglas County Coroner James Keenan said Monday.

Luella P. Adams, 67, was riding with her husband, Walter, also 67, about 3:40 p.m. Sunday three miles north and one mile east of Valley, sheriff's deputies reported.

The east-bound Adams car was struck by a north-bound car driven by Dennis H. Diesterhaupt, 30, of 5706 South Ninety-fifth Plaza, the officers reported.

Adams received a cut hand, Diesterhaupt face cuts and Albin L. Dvorak, 31, of 5706 South Ninety-fifth Plaza, a passenger in the Diesterhaupt car, a bruised knee. All four persons were taken to a Fremont hospital by the Valley Rescue Squad.

Deputies said Mrs. Adams was conscious at the scene and, while she did not seem critically injured, complained of pain in the pelvic area. She died later at the hospital.

Deputies ticketed Diesterhaupt for failure to yield the right of way. The officers said he told them he did not see a "yield, right of way" sign at the intersection.

Keenan said an autopsy showed Mrs. Adams died of a broken back. Reports said she wore a seat belt.

The Douglas County attorney's office said the charge against Diesterhaupt may be revised to a misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide after the evidence is reviewed.
