Agnes was born in a farm home southeast of Petoskey, Michigan. She was the daughter of the late O. Hubert and Rena May (Wellman) Lombard. She grew up on the family farm and attended the one-room Greenwood (District No. 3) School in Bear Creek Township. After completing eight grades there, she entered Petoskey High School in the fall of 1936 and graduated in June 1940. From 1940 to 1945 she held secretarial positions in Petoskey, Gaylord and Charlevoix. From 1945 to 1947 she was a student at Fort Wayne Bible Institute (now Taylor University-Fort Wayne Campus) and worked part time at the Lincoln National Life Insurance offices. She returned to Petoskey, where she was employed in other secretarial positions. In the fall of 1955, she moved to Charlevoix to take a position with the Charlevoix County (State of Michigan) Department of Social Services, where she served under several different civil service clerical classifications, retiring as office manager in November 1977. She also worked for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission at the Charlevoix Consumers Power Plant. She returned to Petoskey and was employed at the Emmet County Soil and Water Conservation District for 4 1/2 years. She retired in December 1987, and, then, for the next 11 years, assisted in the care of a great-niece and great-nephew. She never married but was extremely fond of her six nieces and their spouses, great-nieces and great-nephews. She enjoyed reading, letter writing and telephone visits with friends. From childhood to the time of her death, music was a part of her life. She especially enjoyed the hymns/songs of her church, her sister-in-law's music and the country/western ballads of her earlier era. She was a member of Trinity Missionary Church in Petoskey and had previously been a member of the Charlevoix and Boyne City Nazarene churches. She served all three of these organizations in several different capacities. She was preceded in death by her parents; her only brother, Raymond, and his wife, Dora; an infant nephew, Orrin Paul Thompson; her brother-in-law, Robert E. Thompson; and a very special cousin, Alice E. Luebke. She died at Bay Bluffs Medical Care Facility in Harbor Springs. Survivors include one sister, Jeannette Thompson; six nieces, RoseMary (Ron) Womack of Bronson, Mich., Charlene (Richard) Derby of Santa Ana, Calif., Millie (Donald) Diget of Canadian Lakes, Mich., Debbie Lombard of Bronson, Mich., Janice M. Thompson of Owosso, Mich., and Lois (Terence) Weeter of Alanson; five great-nieces and six great-nephews, two great-great-nieces and five great-great-nephews.
