BLUEFIELD, WV Harold (Gene) Horton Sr., age 89 of Bluefield, WV passed peacefully October 28th. Born September 18 1929 in Richlands, VA, he was the son of the late John S. and Stella D. Horton. He was a graduate of Richlands High School and was a proud member of the Blue Tornado Football team. He served in the United States Air Force for five years and retired from Norfolk Southern RR with over 35 years of service.
Mr. Horton was known by his RR buddies as "Snake Horton" and "Dad". He loved sharing memories and stories of his RR days. He loved watching football and was a loyal WVU and NY Giant Fan.?
In addition to his parents Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Shirley W Horton and one brother John R. Horton.
He is survived by daughters Regina Horton Lacy, and Beverly Horton Damron, husband Patrick, of Bluefield; and one son Harold Horton Jr. and wife Jami of Alvin, Texas; eight grandchildren, Melanie Lacy Rusch husband Ted, Brittany Lacy Funderburk husband Matt, Kristan Lacy Wimmer husband John, Ashlee Litz Degray husband Greg, Morgan Litz Walk husband Travis, John, James and Hannah Horton; great grandchildren, Jayden Bailey, Kynlee, Peyton, Bryce and Brayden Wimmer,
Aiden, Greyson and Griffin Rusch, Jack and Sophia Barrow, Mattison and Mason Funderburk, Tanner and Barrett Degray and Hudson Walk; nephew John Horton and niece Joann Taylor.?
The family wishes to acknowledge special friends Frank and Jean Mitchell and Joe Hillman and to all the wonderful cards, prayers and visits from others.? A very, very heartfelt thank you to the staff at Mercer Nursing Home who loved and cared for him. He loved you and gave each of you a special "nickname".?
