Mary Elizabeth Arrowood Shook, 83, of Newton, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2018, at her Carolina Caring in Newton. Born Oct. 6, 1935, in Burke County, she was the daughter of the late James and Leona Walker Arrowood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Robert Lee Shook; sister, Leona Ogle; brother, Junior Arrowood and a stepsister, June Summy.
She is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Brooks and husband Johnny and Bobbi Guinn and husband, Mike, both of Salisbury; son, Keith Shook and wife, Christie, of Newton; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Iva Sprouse of Nebo, Lillian Morris of Shelby, and Jean Williams of Virginia; two brothers, Jack Arrowood of Hickory and Arnold Arrowood of Lenoir; two stepsisters, Carol Weaver of Lexington, N.C., and Marie Mode of Charleston; two half brothers, Donald Arrowood of Stewart, Va., and Jeff Arrowood of Newton
The funeral service will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m., at the Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton with Pastor Eddie Sapoch officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory. The family will receive friends Saturday, Nov. 3, from 1 to 2:15 p.m., at the funeral home, prior to the service.
