Wesley George Roach, Jr., 72 years of age, of Bertrand, Nebraska, formerly of Shelton, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Wes was born November 14, 1945 in Grand Island, Nebraska, the eldest of two children born to Wesley G. and Nellie “Ruthie” (Hartley) Roach. He received his education from Shelton Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1963.
On July 28, 1965, Wes was inducted into the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged.
On August 27, 1967, he was united in marriage to Bonnie J. Gewecke in Mountain Home, Idaho, while Wes was stationed there. The couple made their home in Alda, Nebraska, for short time but made their home in Shelton. This union was blessed with three children: Della, Wendy, and Tyson. Wes worked for Eaton Corp. as a Press Operator in Kearney, Nebraska for over 20 years.
He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, driving his stock car and dirt track racing, in his younger years, and watching Nebraska Football.
Wes was preceded in death by; his parents; a brother, Bill Roach; and a special uncle, Tom Hartley.
Survivors include: his wife, Bonnie Roach of Bertrand; two daughters, Della Roach of Omaha; and Wendy Stempke and her husband, Kelly of Smithfield, Nebraska; and son, Tyson Roach of Omaha; four grandchildren: Breanna, Michael, Sam and Clayton; three brothers: Frank Rice and his wife, Jackie of rural Shelton and Dan Rice and his wife, Tabitha of Hazard, Nebraska; and Kelly Lyons and his wife, Carol of Yates Center, Kansas; along with other relatives and friends.
Memorial Book Signing was held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
A memorial has been established in Wesley’s honor, and kindly suggested to Fresenius Kidney Care Overland Trails in Kearney.
