Jo Ann Harden Walker, 91, of South Charleston, passed away on July 3, 2018 at Thomas Memorial Hospital.

Jo Ann was born in Fairmont, WV on April 8, 1927 to the late Hearl and Helen Ryan Harden. She was a graduate of South Charleston High School and attended Bowling Green University in Kentucky.

She was very involved in her community and ran for South Charleston City Clerk in 1971. She was a leader in the Girl Scouts of America, a den mother for the Cub Scouts, served as a volunteer for the Agency for Distribution of Commodities as well as volunteered assisting in investigative and case work for social services. She was a PTA officer at Zogg O’Dell Grade School and South Charleston Junior High School. She managed the certification and distribution of Christmas Baskets in her community as well. She and her husband were founding members of St. John United Methodist Church where she was very active and held many different positions within the church. She was an active member of Daughters of the American Revolution.

She worked as a Cashier and Secretary for Commonwealth Life, Dr. E.R. Johnson as the Office Assistant and Office Manager as well as the Director of Information and Referral for Heart and Hand House. She retired as the Executive Director of the WV Board of Accountancy in May of 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband William S. Walker, Jr.; son, Mark S. Walker; twin sister, Mary Lou Bills.

Jo Ann is survived by daughter, Joyce Brown; granddaughter, Tiffany Brown; grandson, Gabriel C. Brown; daughter-in-law, Sandra Walker Bowen; brothers, Robert Harden and Timmy Harden; sister, Jean George.

A Service to Honor the Life of Jo Ann will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Seventh Day Adventist Church, Kanawha Blvd, Charleston. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Family and Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the church. There will also be a visitation held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Saturday, July 7, 2018 at Snodgrass Funeral Home, South Charleston.
