Services for Carolyn Leola Rogers Carter, 84, of Sicily Island, who died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, at Riverland Medical Center, will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church at Sicily Island under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday. Burial will follow at the Old Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the church.
Mrs. Carter was born Aug. 2, 1922, in Collins, the youngest of ten children of Robert Bronson Rogers and Gertrude Gambrell Rogers. She married William Prentiss Carter Jr. on Sept. 1, 1946, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez. She raised her children and grandchildren at her home at Foules, La. Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and son, William Prentiss Carter III.
Survivors include daughter, Carolyn Marguerita Krause of Sicily Island; two sons, Roger Morris Carter of Foules, La. and Gerald Patrick Carter of Greenville, Texas; four granddaughters, Karla McGee and Katie Nappier, both of Harrisonburg, Lauren Carater of College Station, Texas and Christie Carter of Greenville, Texas; grandson Anthony Carter of Mandeville; great-grandchildren, Margo and Morgan McGee of Harrisonburg, and Cade, Karlee and Caroline Carter of Mandeville.
The pallbearers will be James McGee, Arte Goode, Anthony Carter, Walter Myers, Matt Myers, Charles Tucker, Carroll Barron and Joey Evans. Honorary pallbearers are Bertis Ray, Tim White, A.J. Vangilder, Willard Kassel, Charles Miller, H.C. Peck Jr, Ray Young, Huey Moak, Leon Warden, J.W. Barron, Gus Watson Jr., Dr. Herman Gibson Jr. and Shane Nappier.
