Gerald was born in Indianapolis a son of the late Earl N. and Harriett (Brown) Coleman. He was a graduate of Clayton High School with the class of 1961. Gerald married Mona Preecs on Aug. 9, 1975. He had been a tool crib attendant at Allison Transmission Plant #3 in Indianapolis for 30 years, retiring in 1991. Gerald served his country in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam War. He was a member of Danville American Legion Post #118, and attended Bartlett Chapel United Methodist Church in Avon.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Mona, sons, Jason (Karla) Coleman of Zionsville, Jeff (Lisa) Coleman of Deerfield Beach, FL., grandchildren, Grant and Adison Coleman, brother, Gene Coleman of Avon, sisters, Carolyn Rodenbeck of Indianapolis, Diane Salatin of Batesville, Patricia Hawk and Sheila Birge, both of Clayton.
