Lou Garner, beloved husband, brother, dad, granddad, great-granddad "Papa" and friend passed away May 18, 2007.

Graveside services will be 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel with Reverend Wayne Oglesby officiating, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Lou was born December 2, 1918 in Morrilton, Arkansas to Abraham Buffered and Emma Jean Bricky Garner. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1941, six months before the start of World War II, and served until he was honorably discharged in 1945. On September 15, 2004, Lou was awarded an Honor and Remembrance Medallion by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2012, in Abilene. In 1956, Lou and his brothers built their own business, Garner Bros. In Midland. Lou was an avid hunter and golfer. In 1992, Lou moved to Merkel from Abilene after the death of his wife, Sammie June Seay Garner. For the last 15 years he lived at the southeast corner of Tin Cup Golf Course and became the course's unofficial expert and staunchest supporter. He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include 2 sisters, Beatrice "Bee" Henry, Betty Jean "Bett" Teagarden; 1 brother, J. B. Garner; a daughter, Sammy Lou Prock; grandchildren, Dawn Marie McCorkle, Brooke Gail Phillips, Christy Jill Cobb; 5 great-grandchildren and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his son, Brooke Seay Garner, and siblings, Lela Mae Skidmor and Johnny Homer Garner.
