Edith spent her early childhood in Winfield, KS. On April 28, 1955, she married Carl J. Pettay in Hutchinson, KS (died June 22, 2015). After their marriage, the couple lived in Hutchinson, KS. In 1975, they moved to Montezuma, KS followed by a move to Sublette, KS. In 1984, they moved to Fowler, KS.
Edith worked in customer service at K-Mart in Hutchinson, Garden City, and Wichita, KS. She was also a CNA and CMA and later worked as a dispatcher for the sheriff's office. She was also the primary caregiver for her disabled daughter, Carla. She had recently returned to southwest Kansas to be near her daughter after staying in Missouri for awhile with her son, Darrel. Edith enjoyed playing bingo, reading, attending KC Chiefs football games with family, and watching Nascar. She also liked spending time in Colorado with her son, Kevin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Pettay; son, Robert Pettay; and brother, Les Alberding.
Survivors include her three children, Darrel (Marilyn) Pettay, Peculiar, Missouri; Carla Pettay, Dodge City, KS; and Kevin (Tammy) Pettay, Grand Junction, Colorado; brother, Wayne Alberding, Aurora, MO; sister, Donna Jen Sanders, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
