Mrs. Carrie Lakes Hand Owens was born June 13, 1937 to the late Mac Brown and Gennie Lakes Brown. She graduated from East Depot High School where she played basketball and was an awesome softball player. She completed Troup Tech. Mrs. Owens served as interim Judge for the Magistrate Court and was the first African American female to run for the office in LaGrange, Georgia. She went on to work for Kaydon, Corporation where she retired. Carrie was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed flowers and her true passion was gardening and being around family and friends. She was a great cook, loved to entertain, and enjoyed family gatherings. She adored her children. On Thursday, October 25, 2018; our beloved Carrie passed away at her home in LaGrange, Georgia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Roosevelt Owens and brother, Elkin Strozier, Jr. She leaves to cherish

her memories, her children: Theresa S. Brown Hand, Victor (Melissa) Hand, Sr., Wayne D. Hand, John H. Hand, Jr., Angela (Blair) Hand Gomez, and Pamela (Archie) Hand Smith; nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren; siblings: Christine (Jimmie) Boykin, Mary Alice Brown, Melvin Brown, and Raymond (Linda) Brown; special niece, Melva Brown Malone; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The Service will be Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Brother Arthur Hall, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow at Meadoway Gardens Cemetery. The family was at their home at 303 Sivell Road and received friends in the Chapel of Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home on Monday, October 29, 2018 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
