She was born May 2, 1930 in Bethesda and was the daughter of Lester Calaway, Sr. and Joy (Fowler) Calaway. Iris graduated from Batesville High School in 1948 and she was the Salutatorian of her class. She then graduated from Arkansas College (now Lyon College). She retired from Entergy as a secretary. Iris enjoyed flowers, gardening and riding horses in her younger days.
Iris is survived by her husband, Ernest Allender of the home; her son, Timothy Edwin Ellison of Germantown, Tennessee; two stepsons, Gene Allender of Jacksonville and Gaylon Allender of Heber Springs; two stepdaughters, Joyce Allender of Batesville and Glenda Peel of Concord; and one grandchild, Benjamin James Ellison. She is also survived by a nephew, Mark Calaway of Denton, Texas and a niece, Karen Hester of Blytheville.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Calaway, Jr. and Will Calaway.
There will be no visitation.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Campground Cemetery in Bethesda under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
