Chance Alan Derrick was born March 4, 1995 in Dallas, TX to Johnny Derrick and Valorie Orquiz. He lived in New Mexico with his grandparents Raymond and Janice Derrick until they moved to Redfield, SD in 2008. Chance fell in love with the people of South Dakota and its way of life. In 2012, he joined the South Dakota Army National Guards. Chance graduated from Redfield High School in Redfield, SD. In 2013, after graduating he moved to Mitchell, SD so he could go to MTI to become a welder. He worked for Trail King Industries until July 2018 when he went to work for AKG Welding.
Chance enjoyed hunting, fishing and hanging out with his family and friends. He never met a stranger and treated those around him with kindness.
Chance is survived by his son, Colton Derrick; parents, Johnny (Nancy) Derrick of Madera, CA and Valorie Orquis of Artesia, NM; sisters, Shelisty Lattion, Charmayne Derrick and Ashlyn Meshoto; grandparents, Raymond (Janice) Derrick of Alamogordo, NM; aunt and uncle, Donna (Steve) Hague; great-grandmothers, Helen Franklin and Bonnie Derrick.
