Ellen Jane Ruth Martin, born on June 30, 1915 at Constantine, County of Cornwall, England to Norman and Annie Grace (Tremayne) Pascoe, was known to friends and family as "Ruth."

She passed away on May 13, 2007 at Spearfish Regional Hospital of natural causes.

Funeral services will be Friday, May 18, 2007 at the United Methodist Church, burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

A memorial has been established to benefit the Spearfish Regional Hospital Auxiliary.

Ruth immigrated to America at 9 months of age on the ship, "Saint Paul." She entered the United States through Ellis Island. On Sept. 27, 1921 she received naturalization as a result of her father's citizenship.

Ruth attended schools in Lead and graduated in 1934 from Lead High School.

She married Fred Schell in Sturgis on December 16, 1938. They had two sons, Gary and Robert "Butch." Ruth worked as a secretary for Lemar Motor Company, Rozenkranz Insurance and CPA Walt Daniels.

On May 31, 1980 Ruth married Tracy Martin of Spearfish in Aberdeen. Tracy and Ruth lived in Spearfish and had a winter home in Tucson, Ariz.

All her life, Ruth was very active supporting family activities and involvement with various organizations. In Spearfish she was a member of the United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Senior Center and volunteering Spearfish Regional Hospital and the Chamber of Commerce Office.

Ruth loved her family, having friends visit, playing cards, dancing, crafts, crocheting and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Gust Anderson, husbands Fred Schell (who she is burried with) and Tracy Martin.

Funeral arrangements have been placed in the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel of Spearfish.
