Following months of declining health, Carl Donald Bell of Frederick, MD passed away peacefully in his home with his family on October 28, 2018. He was born April 13, 1924 at Four Corners, Silver Spring, MD, the older son of Carl Clayton Bell and Helen Elizabeth Snyder.

Much of his early life was spent in Frederick where he was lovingly raised by his late Aunt Dorothy and Uncle Roscoe Murray. He graduated from Frederick High school in 1941. He continued his undergraduate and graduate degree studies at the University of Maryland College Park. After graduating he began a teaching and administration career in various classroom settings, mostly public schools in Maryland.

After retirement to fulfill his love for learning and teaching he volunteered in several day care centers for many years, as well as teaching in a synagogue in Bowie, MD for 14 years. He was known for his faith and trust in God, his sense of humor and his love for mankind.

Carl is preceded in death by his parents Carl Clayton Bell and Helen E. Snyder, two sisters Dorothy Jones and Theresa Bensinger.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years Barbara Wilson Bell, his beloved Scottie, Abigail, one daughter Tracey E. Spitalsky and husband Gary of Frederick, three granddaughters, Maryanne DeWitt of Frederick, Kelly Illi and husband Vince of Fort Meade, MD, and Susan Spitalsky of Frederick, one brother Charles C. Bell and wife Barbara Bell of Lexington Park, MD.

The family is being served by the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home. A private graveside memorial will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery Frederick, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of Frederick County, 516 Trail Avenue, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD, 21702.
