The REV. ALFRED WELLS LASSITER of 3416 Prescott Circle, retired minister and former pastor of Galloway Methodist Church, died at 9:30 last night at this home after an illness of three months. He was 77.
Born in Murray, Kentucky, the Rev. Mr. Lassiter had lived in Memphis for eleven years. He was pastor of the Galloway Methodist Church from 1941 to 1945. Later serving at several other churches, he came back to Memphis after his retirement in 1951. In a 40-year ministry, his Tennessee churches included Brownsville, Jackson, Trenton, Tiptonville, Huntingdon and Bolton. He began his ministry at Bolton in 1911.
The Rev. Mr. Lassiter was 96th grand master of the Free and Accepted Masons of Tennessee. He also was a member of Royal Arch Masons, Knights of Templar and the Masonic Veterans Association, of which he was chaplain until last March. He was chaplain emeritus at the time of his death.
He and Mrs. Lassiter would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Erin L. Moreno and Miss Jane Lassiter, both of Memphis, and two grandchildren. National Funeral Home has charge. ~~~ THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL, Memphis, TN, June 28, 1958, page 25
