NEW YORK MILLS-James R. Dick, 72, formerly of Burrstone Road, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, in the Martin Luther Home, Clinton, with his family by his side.
Born in Oneida, on November 19, 1946, the son of Robert and Dorothy "Sally" Lerch Dick. Raised in Oneida and Sylvan Beach, and was a graduate of Oneida High School. He married Marie Martin in Westmoreland on July 15, 1966. A veteran of the United States Army, during the Viet Nam era, his tour included being stationed in Panama.
Jim was employed by the Pyramid Corporation, being employed at Riverside Mall, assisting in the development and construction of Destiny USA and serving as the Operations Manager of Sangertown Square until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of the American Legion, Clarks Mills Post # 26 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing as well as searching for moose and bear in the Adirondacks. Jim loved working in his garden and around the yard, tending to raspberries, blueberries, grapes and growing the largest zucchini in the area. He was an active home canner, making sure he had just enough hot pepper jelly to leave people wanting more. His creative outlet was expressed in the many woodworking pieces he made for family and friends.
Surviving is his beloved wife of fifty-two years, Marie; his daughter, two sons, his grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers, sisters-in-law, his "Friday Night Dinner Club" and dear friends, as well as nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law, Tim and niece, Annie.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday, from the Campbell-Dean Funeral Home, Inc., 260 Main Street, Oneida, with the Reverend Denise Bowen, officiating. Interment will be made in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home, 3-7PM, Thursday.
