Born May 21, 1946, in South Bend, he was the son of William J. Martin and June (Page) Martin.
In June of 1984, he was married to Dianna J. (McCracken) Martin, who preceded him in death on December 31, 2004
A graduate of South Caston High School, Herb received an Associate of Applied Science from Vincennes University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Purdue University.
He was retired from the Logansport Community School Corporation where he taught manufacturing at the Century Career Center.
Herb proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of sergeant and served as a jet aircraft mechanic in the 481st Tactical Fighter Squadron.
A member of the Salvation Army, Herb donated to several missions and shared his faith with everyone he met. He was a living history buff and loved sharing his knowledge. He was a "tinkerer" when it came to mechanics. He enjoyed building cannons and guns.
Surviving are his mother, June Martin; daughter, Melanie (Andy) Mills, Wolcott; sons, Kevin Martin, and Daren (Tina) McCracken, all of Logansport, John McCracken, and Charles McCracken, all of Richmond, Virginia, and J. "Todd" (Angela) McCracken, Missouri; three brothers, Ronald Martin, Mike Martin and William "Bill" Martin; two sisters, Margaret Reick and Marry Ann Oakes; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, William J. Martin, and one brother, Robert Martin.
