Greta hoped to be remembered as having a full life filled with service to Family, Church and her Country. She believed one’s highest calling was the giving of one’s time and talents to church, family and the USA. While a member of Monroe’s First Presbyterian Church, she served as a Ruling Elder, Church Treasurer, Sunday School Class President and Teacher, Historian, and member of Women of the Church where she had served as President of the Women of the Church. A proud, active member of the Republican Party beginning in 1970, Ouachita Parish Women’s Republican Club, Louisiana and National Federation of Republican Women in which she was elected to numerous offices. Innovations during her term as LFRW Pres. included establishment of Kurfiss Award, Martinez Scholarship and Magnolia Club. Twenty-Eight Republican women were elected to public office during her LFRW presidency. An elected delegate to the ‘76 and ‘80, Republican National Conventions, she was the only La. woman appointed by Pres. GHW Bush to be an At -Large Delegate to the ‘92 RNC convention. Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed her to the La. Board of Parole where she served as Board Vice Chairman. Gov. David Treen appointed her to the La. Tourism Development Commission where she served as Commission Vice Chairman. She was appointed to the Ouachita Expressway Authority where she served as Secretary.
She proudly told those who asked that she was the woman from ‘Downtown Haile in Union Parish.
Greta met her beloved husband Jimmy while employed at Commercial Solvents Corporation in Sterlington. They were blessed with 50 years of marriage. Traveling, spending time with family and friends, growing ca- mellias and collecting elephants were some of her hobbies. She believed her life to be especially blessed with Jimmy Jones as her husband but also with wonderful friends and family.
