Scottsdale - Alvin "Skip" Scheiden, 88, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Skip was born in Des Plaines, Illinois in 1929. He grew up in the greenhouse business and ultimately bought the business and ran it as a combination garden center and commercial greenhouse. In 1952, he married Joanne and they have one daughter Diane Lucas and son-in-law Donald. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1969, he sold the greenhouse and moved his family to Arizona. He worked for Motorola and later took a job with the USPS, Scottsdale Post Office. In 1985, he and his wife moved to Overgaard and he retired from the Show Low Post Office in 1992. He worked for a while with the Forest Service and returned to Scottsdale in 1996. Skip always enjoyed taking care of his home and yard, bowling or playing double deck Pinochle. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time at his children's home in Arizona's Rim Country. Skip is preceded in death by Joanne, his wife of 65-years and is survived by his daughter Diane (Donald) Lucas of Scottsdale. He is also survived by his sister Evelyn Savage from Illinois and their daughters, Mary and Arlette and families. A private Memorial Service will be held at Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery in Scottsdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of the Valley Eckstein Center to be made in Skip's honor.
