Dennis Chairman Meadows, Sr., 93, of Elkton, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Sunnyside Retirements Community in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Meadows was born August 31, 1925 in Rockingham County and was the son of the late, Frederick C. and Addie Lam Meadows. He was also preceded in death by his son, Dennis C. Meadows, Jr., two brothers and four sisters.
Dennis served in the Army during WWII and received various commendations to include a Purple Heart for injuries obtained during combat. He was employed with Merck and Co. and later worked for and retired from Sullivan Mechanical Contractors in Shenandoah.
On June 21, 1944 he married Elizabeth Shifflett Meadows who preceded him in death on May 10, 2017.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Dean and Carolyn Taylor, both of Elkton; daughter-in-law, Carol Meadows; two sisters, Lorraine Shifflett and Leona Breeden; one brother, Fred D. Meadows; seven grandchildren, David Taylor, Scott Dean, Vanessa Forman, Denise Meadows, Tim Taylor, Melissa Nester and Chris Nester. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
