Nellie was born July 8, 1934 in Strong City, OK to James L. and Malena (Downey) Griffey. She passed away September 22, 2018 in Skiatook, OK.
Nellie was raised around the Cheyenne and Roll, OK areas. She was the youngest of nine children, Carl, Chester, Everette, Earl, Frank, Calvin, Dessie and Nona Mae. Nellie moved to Oklahoma City and went to work for Kress Clothing Department where she met James (J.W.) Myers, who was a jack of all trades.
Later, Nellie and J.W. married and they moved to Tulsa in the early 1950’s and had six children. Nellie and J.W. would then move to Skiatook in 1972. She worked at the Top Rail restaurant, and delivered the Tulsa World newspaper for several years. Nellie also worked for Girling Home Healthcare in 1993 in Cheyenne, OK. Nellie was a homemaker and loved to work in the garden, play dominoes and checkers. She also loved jewelry. Nellie was a country girl who received her driver’s license at 36 and her GED at 62. Nellie was a member of the Community Lighthouse Church in Skiatook.
She is survived by her six children, Kathryn (Myers) Brown-Sandridge of Tulsa, Shirley (Myers) McKay of Skiatook, Jimmy Myers and Laurie Greer-Myers of Skiatook, Carla (Myers) Bowman-Shields of Tulsa, Danny Myers of Sperry, and Michael “Tony” Myers of Skiatook; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous aunts, uncles, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James (J.W.) Myers; granddaughter, Danielle Sandridge; both parents; six brothers; two sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
