Author. He was rejected for ordination in 1751 and studied medicine at Edinburgh & Leyden. He practiced as a physician in Southwark & was a writer on Griffith's Monthly Review. He began writing under the name of James Willington in 1758. He is remembered for his second comedy, She Stoops to Conquer, produced at Covent Garden in 1773.
