Will of Elvira K. Miller
I, Elvira K. Miller, now of Orion in the County of Henry and state of Illinois, knowing the uncertainty of life, being in failing health, but of sound mind and memory do make, publish and declare this as my Last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows to wit:
First: It is my wish that all of my just debts be paid by my Executor of this my last Will and Testament, including my funeral expenses.
Second: Having felt that my most worthy Mother and my soldier Nephew buried by her deserve a more substantial Monument than they now have, I hereby give and bequeath a sum not less than Three Hundred and fifty Dollars, and not to exceed Four Hundred Dollars, to be used by my Executor in the payment for such Monument, to the memory of Our Mother Hannah Jordan and Myron Jordan, son of my brother, Edwin Jordan deceased. And I request that at my decease I may be intered as near as possible to my Mother, and that my name be placed on the same Monument with theirs.
Third: I give and bequeath to the American Baptist Foreign Missionary Union Five Hundred Dollars, to be paid through the Womans Baptist Foreign Missionary Society of the West.
Fourth: I give devise and bequeath to the American Baptist Home Mission Society, Three Hundred Dollars.
Fifth: I give and bequeath to the American Baptist Education Society Two Hundred Dollars. It is my wish that the Society use this bequest in aid of the proposed Baptist University at Chicago.
Sixth: I give and bequeath to the First Baptist Church of Carroll in Wayne Co. Nebraska, Seventy-Five Dollars to be paid by my Executor in yearly sums of Twenty-Five Dollars.
Seventh: I give and bequeath to my Brother Thomas J Jordan Five Hundred Dollars.
Eighth: I give and bequeath to Susan N Jordan Wife of my Brother Thomas, One Hundred Dollars.
Ninth: I give and bequeath to my brother Henry L Jordan One Hundred Dollars.
Tenth: I give and bequeath to Bethiah ElviraTaylor, daughter of my sister One Hundred Dollards
Eleventh: I give and bequeath to George M Miller’s daughter Martha Elvira Miller, One Hundred Dollars.
Twelvth: I give and bequeath to my friend Laura M Flint wife of Frank Flint of Decorah Iowa One Hundred Dollars
Thirteenth: I give and bequeath to Mary L Long daughter of my brother Edwin Fifty Dollars.
Fourteenth: I give and bequeath to my friend Helen M Clark Fifty Dollars.
Fifteenth: I give and bequeath to the Baptist State Convention of the State of Nebraska for the benefit of the Aged and Superannuated Ministers and their wives, One Hundred Dollars.
Sixteenth: All the residue and remainder of my property after the foregoing Legacies-Expenses, and Expenses of the Settlement of my Estate are paid I give devise and bequeath Pro Rata with the sums named in the Third Fourth and Fifths Causes hereof To the American Baptist Foreign Missionary Union, To the American Baptist Home Mission Society, and To the American Baptist Education Society.
Seventeenth: I hereby instruct my Executor of this my last Will and Testament, to sell at Private sale my Property, and I hereby fully Empower him to make all necessary Deeds to fully convey title to my Real Estate to the purchasers thereof, such title to be as complete as I could make them myself if living.
Eighteenth: I request my Executor to make complete settlement of my estate within three years from the appointment by the court.
Nineteenth: I hereby nominate and request the court to appoint W. W. Warner of Henry County State of Illinois Executor of this my last Will and Testament, and I hereby ask the appointment of said W. W. Warner as Executor to be made without his giving bonds as such Executor.
In witness thereof I Elvira K Miller have hereto affixed my signature and attached my seal to this my last Will and Testament at Orion Henry County State of Illinois this Twenty-sixth day of January A D Eighteen Hundred and Ninety.
