Paul E. Ball, 75, of Bloomington passed away at 2:12 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 20, 2008) at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington.

He was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Bloomington, son of Paul M. and Lucy Cash Ball. He married Jean Gordon on May 30, 1953, at Keeler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss. He later married Norene Griest Hemphill on Aug. 24, 1986, in Oakford.

Surviving are his wife of Bloomington; three sons, P. Michael Ball and Steve (Kathy) Ball, both of Bloomington, and Jeff (Michaela) Ball of Baton Rouge, La.; one daughter, Laura Ball of Bloomington; one stepson, Adam Hemphill of Washington, D.C.; and one stepdaughter, Jennifer (Kevin) Tatroe of Kent, Wash. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; one sister, Mary Barr of McLean; three half-brothers, William (Vicki) Ball of Oxford, Miss., Robert Ball of Eureka, and James Ball of Sanford, Fla.; and one half-sister, Connie (Curt) McCarty of Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ruth Brown.

Paul was a 1952 graduate of McLean High School and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He was a United States Air Force Veteran, joined in 1953 and honorably discharged in 1957.

He previously owned and operated Paul Ball Gallery of Homes, where he was a builder and developer. He was also a licensed real estate broker in Bloomington, retiring in 2007. After his retirement he worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Bloomington.

Paul was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

His memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, where visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Cremation rites have been accorded. East Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Bloomington YWCA or to the family.
