Karl Gerber Jones
Karl Gerber Jones returned to his heavenly home on October 19, 2018. He was born on a snowy Monday morning on December 17, 1928 at his home in Provo, Utah to Helen Gerber and Frank Welby Jones. He was the oldest of 5 children.
Karl grew up in Fort Hall, Idaho and moved to Lehi in the 7th grade. In high school he excelled in math and science and was the sports athletic manager.
When he was a senior in high school he met the love of his life, Ramona Hunsaker. They were married in the Logan Temple on August 12, 1948. They enjoyed 70 wonderful years together. They were blessed with 7 children (Brian, Karen, Deanne, Grant, Mary Ellen, Kathleen, and Dennis), 37 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren (and counting) who all loved him dearly.
He graduated from BYU with his Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and earned a Master's degree from San Jose State College. In 1977 he was awarded the Mathematics Educator Award, which was later re-named the Karl G. Jones Award.
Karl enjoyed anything outdoors. He loved hiking in southern Utah and hiked Mt. Timpanogos many times. He had a love of sports and played catcher on a men's fast-pitch softball team.
He loved music…playing coronet, violin, mandolin, the harmonica, conducted and sung in choirs and called out commands for square dancing.
Missionary work was important to him. He served as a ward and stake missionary for many years and also served 8 full time missions with Ramona. He also loved serving in the Jordan River Temple.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, October 29th at the chapel located at 1244 W. Chavez Drive, South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held from 10:30 -11:45 prior to the funeral.
