He was christened on the 7 Mar 1811 in St. James, Westminster, London. Father: James Hunt, Mother: Harriet. He married Eliza on the 12 Nov 1833 in St John the Evangelist, Westminster.
He was a civil engineer and surveyor. As a young man he made an estimate for the Houses of Parliament. He was involved in the surveying for the North Staffordshire, London Brighton and South Coast, the Eastern Counties, the District and the Metropolitan Railways. He supervised the building of the railway shops at Stratford. He built the huge brewery at Burton-on-Trent for Messrs Allsopp.
He was involved in the planning and building for the Great Exhibition of 1851, and managed many other estates.
He was a consulting surveyor to Her Majesty's Office of Works from 1856 to 1886. He choose the sitre for and supervised the building of The Royal Courts of Justice.
In 1881 gave his occupation as Surveyor, Knight C B, & J P For Middlesex. He died at 16 The Lees Folkestone. There is a brass tablet to him in St.Margaret's Church, next to Westminster Abbey. The inscription reads:
To the Glory of God and in memory of Sir Henry Arthur Hunt C.B. 1810-1889. Eliza Susannah nee Bennett his wife 1810-1891. George Pownall 1808-1893. Harriet Alice nee Pett his wife 1814-1879.
This window is erected by their children Henry Arthur Hunt, Alice Eliza nee Pownall his wife 1894. Dear honoured lost to us your children, this fair memorial of their love & praise, for neath life's darkening skies their feet may roam, bright high above them gleams the star of home. F.W.Farrar.
Also to the memory of Mary Pownall Hunt, only child of the above, born May 1863 fell asleep August 1865. Her soul pleased the Lord, therefore hasted he to take her from among the children of men.
The window was destroyed in WWII.
