Edna Inez Wilson Weeks, 84, of Abilene, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at Abilene Regional Medical Center.
Services will be held Friday, January 7, 2005, at 2 p.m. at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech Street, under the direction of North's Funeral Home. Graveside services are at Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Weeks was born August 18, 1920, to Ross Melvin Wilson and wife Myrtle Bell, in Union Springs, Oklahoma. She grew up with five brothers.

After graduating from Union Springs High School, she attended nursing school at Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton, Illinois, graduating in 1941.

She enlisted in the United States Army during World War II where she served in the Army Nursing Corp, stationed in San Juan, Puerto Rico, at Rodriguez Hospital. During her service, Mrs. Weeks rose to head nurse of the surgical team.

While stationed in San Juan, she met her husband of 59 years, James Elliott Weeks Jr., an Army Lieutenant from Claude, Texas. They were married on July 24, 1945, in Puerto Rico. She was discharged from the Army in 1946 with the rank of First Lieutenant.

An Abilene resident since 1955, Mrs. Weeks was a homemaker and active in Cub Scouts with her fours sons, all of who became Eagle Scouts. Mrs. Weeks was involved with the PTA at Bonham Elementary School.

She returned briefly to nursing in the early '70s, at the Abilene State School Hospital.

As a community volunteer she worked with Meals on Wheels and taught Sunday school when her children were young. Mrs. Weeks was also an avid rose gardener and traveled with her husband during his retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a longtime Abilene attorney; and one son, James Elliott Weeks III.

She is survived by three sons: John Weeks of Abilene, David Weeks of Austin, Robert Weeks of Liberty Hill; eight grandchildren: Amy Weeks of Stillwater, Okla., Sara Jane Weeks of Brooklyn, N.Y., McLaren Weeks of Austin, Private First Class, USMC, Elliott James Weeks of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, Bailey Weeks of Liberty Hills, Robert Weeks Jr. of Liberty Hill, James Weeks of Liberty Hill, and John McClure of Dallas; and one brother, R.H. Wilson of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.

The family wishes to thank Ester Jones and Margaret Ghant for the home care of Mrs. Weeks.
