Betty Lou Bailey Casey Rossman passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at the age of 93 at Rolling Meadows in Wichita Falls. She was born in Seymour, Texas, to Bryan and Nannie Brown Bailey and was greeted by her loving older brother, Bryan Jr. The family moved to Wichita Falls soon after her birth where her father eventually opened Bailey Furniture store downtown. In subsequent years, the family expanded to welcome two more brothers, George W. and James M. Bailey. They all predeceased Betty.
Betty graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1942 and attended Harden Junior College (now MSU). During WWII she met Robert (Bob) J. Casey, of St. Louis, Mo. when he was stationed at Sheppard AAFB. They married on July 20, 1943 and were married for over 50 years. After the war, they settled in Wichita Falls where Bob worked for the Prudential Insurance Company. Betty stayed home and raised their four children until, in 1976, she began working at the Kemp Public Library until her retirement in 1992. She and Bob enjoyed traveling and met and made many friends over the years. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in July, 1993. That winter, after a short illness, Bob died at home on January 1, 1994.
Bob and Betty were considered one of the “founding families” who established Our Lady Queen of Peace (OLQP) Catholic Church and school in the early 1950’s. Betty was also engaged in the community, volunteering at the OLQP Church and school, Hospice of Wichita Falls, United Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, and over the years she gave over two gallons of blood to the Red Cross.
On one of their trips, Bob and Betty met Martin (Marty) Rossman of Huntington Beach, CA, who Betty married on March 23, 1996. Marty had two daughters, Alex Rossman and Nancy Brown and her husband, Terry, and their son, Jason. In the beginning, they lived both in his California and Texas but eventually made Wichita Falls home. They enjoyed five happy years that ended with Marty’s death on March 19, 2001.
Surviving Betty are her children and their spouses: David R. and Sue Hartness Casey of Ft. Worth; Patricia and Robert Williams of Oklahoma City; Catherine Casey and Casey Hoffman of Austin; and John and Cindy Fields Casey of Amarillo. Late in life, Betty also considered Lorrie Hague of Visiting Angels as her third daughter. We are so happy that Mom had Lorrie to be her comfort, companion, and friend in these last months.
Betty is also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses: Kristen and Conice Boenicke of Del Rio; Ryan and Liz Casey of San Antonio; Sarah Williams and Chris Smiley of Tulsa; Ann Williams and Joe Witten of Burneyville, OK; Christopher and Sarah Barack Berend of South Orange, N. J.; Justin and Mandi Casey of Amarillo; and Shelby and Josh Kroeger of Amarillo. Betty felt so lucky to have fourteen great-grandchildren: Megan and Colin Boenicke, Olivia and Connor Casey, Claire, Olivia and Lauren Smiley, Zachary Witten, Penelope and Theodore Berend, Cason and Cash Casey, Jack and Coleman Kroeger.
Services will be held on Monday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Chapel at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 2601 Lansing Blvd. A memorial reception will be held at the Rolling Meadows Media Center (3006 McNiel, 2nd floor) on Monday between 1:00 and 2:30.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Betty by making a donation to Hospice of Wichita Falls or to the Kemp Public Library.
