Agnes McClay was born in Scotland between 1870-1872 to Anna McCLay Houston Shively and an unknown man. She called herself Shively after she came to Kansas but she was never adopted.
Anna Houston Married Charles E. Shively in 1882 in Carbondale. I don't know when Agnes came over , but I believe it was much later than 1882. Due to infidelity with her Step-Father, Agnes left for Topeka where she joined the ranks of the salvation army and worked for Cyrus K Hollidays (A founder of Topeka) family under Charles K. Holliday. Agnes fell in love with a man named Frank Durand and was said to be engaged until Frank called it off breaking Agnes McClay Shivelys heart and led her to take a lethal dose of Morphine and spend several hours dying.
Agnes is said to be buried in lot #142 which belongs to the Mitchell Family in an unmarked grave.
Several articles exist describing the Suicide.
