Mr. James Lewis Hardee, Sr., 95, died Saturday, March 10, 2018.
The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 PM in the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Pastor Brad Williams. Burial will follow in Pinewood memorial park.
Mr. Hardee was the son of the late Oscar and Thelma E. Hardee of Pitt County. He graduated from Grimesland High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Haddock Hardee, on February 1, 1942. They were both natives of Pitt County and were married for 73 years prior to Marie's death on April 20, 2015.
James Lewis was the last surviving member of the National Guard 113 Field Artillery. He was a retired tobacco and poultry farmer and loved to fish. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, James Lewis was preceded in death by his brothers, William Alvah Hardee, Karl E. Hardee, Noah T. Hardee and Worth B. Hardee; and sister, Doris Hardee Boyd; surviving is a sister, Thelma Jane Hardee Whitehurst.
He is survived by his: sons, James Lewis Hardee, Jr. and wife, Shirley; William Claude "Billy" Hardee and wife, Deborah; and Dan R. Hardee; grandchildren, James L. Hardee, III, Brenda H. Mills, S. Brooke Hardee, and Taylor R. Hardee; and William Kevin Hardee and Ashley Brad Hardee; and 5 great-grandchildren.
